Creek Indian
According to Wikipedia :The Creek are an American Indian people originally from the southeastern United States, also known by their original name Muscogee (or Muskogee), the name they use to identify themselves today.Mvskoke is their name in traditional spelling. Modern Muscogees live primarily in Oklahoma, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida. Their language, Mvskoke, is a member of the Creek branch of the Muskogean language family.
The Seminole are close relatives to the creek and it was often said that the creek language was almost their native tongue. Many historians believed that the earliest creek Indians were related to the mound builders that lived along the Tennessee river . In the mid 14 to 1500’s the creek covered almost all of the south east United States all the way to the 1600’s until Europeans and Cherokee forced them to what is now present day Oklahoma. When the Europeans arrived they brought with them the gift of death ; small pox , which wiped out over 90% of their population. It wasn’t till the late 1600s the finally started to recover. The creeks were relatively different from other Indians when it came to their living arrangements , they lived in thatched huts . Unlike their nomadic tribes who used teepees or wigwams . The name creek was shorten by the English settlers . They called Them creek because the majority of the tribes were found along the Ocheese Creek river . As time passed around the 1700s the creek tribes began to spread out and homes began to separate by miles of crops . Even though heir government was centered around the chief many still chose to follow the crop and the life that went with it . Like many Indians now they can be found all over America . Some have followed the Seminole bred grin and got into the casino business , however many still stay true to their Creek heritage .
